Summer-Specific Issues Making Your Carpets Dirtier

Summer can be a problematic time for carpets. From kids and pets tracking dirt inside to sandy beach trips getting everywhere, and even cocktails spilling at all the extra parties you’re having. These are just a few of the reasons why we get so many carpet and rug cleaning appointments at this time of the year!

In this post, we’re going to go into more detail with regard to these challenges and how they can cause extra wear and damage to your carpets. Being aware of these facts can help you to minimize the impact of summer and hopefully help your carpets to stay clean and last for longer!

More Dirt from the Kids

When the kids are off school, there’s going to be a lot more traffic on your carpets. And that means dirty shoes all over everywhere!

During the school year, your carpet gets a much-needed break from the kids. But once school is out, all bets are off. No matter how many times you ask them to take their shoes off, they never do!

It’s nice when your kids want to go outside and play instead of being cooped up indoors all day. But the trade-off is that your carpets definitely take more abuse.

Increased Mud

Summer often comes with a lot of torrential rain. Fleeting storms cause the exterior of homes to become a muddy mess, and some of that mud will undoubtedly end up on your carpets.

No matter how much you wipe your shoes off, there’s still going to be mud on them.

And once it’s on your carpets, there’s very little you can do with a vacuum or cleaning wipes. The only option at this point is to book a professional carpet cleaning appointment. (If you live in Arvada or nearby, we know a company that can help...)

Extra Parties

Summer is the perfect time to have friends over. Margaritas, lemonade, pizza...and messes spilled on the floor.

The more, the merrier! But also, the more, the messier. With all those friends come carpet stains and cleaning on your hands and knees.

Try as you might, things are going to spill. No matter how many napkins you give people, whether or not there’s a table to sit at, or if you don’t overfill the cups...good luck keeping the carpet clean.

More Adventures

Summertime means more adventuring outdoors! But what does the outdoors bring? Dirt and mud on your shoes, clothes, and body.

Take a camping trip for example. You go hiking and set up camp. You have all your gear lying on the ground. It rains. Your boots get muddy. Your clothes have dirt on them. Even your face is covered in dirt.

And when you get home, you have no choice but to walk through the living room. Hopefully you don’t put your dirty gear down on the carpet, but you might out of exhaustion.

And even if you take your shoes and socks off, and you put your gear directly in the garage, there’s going to be dirt on your body.

Let’s say the dirt on your body doesn’t end up on your carpet. Well, now there’s more dirt in your car. And that will eventually end up...on your carpet!

Pets

Now that it’s summer, your pets are going to be spending more time outdoors. Your dogs will be going on more walks, to the dog park, and hanging out in the backyard much more than when it’s colder out.

But that means your pets will be tracking in dirt from the outdoors. And it’s not as simple as taking shoes off when it comes to pets! Dirt is unavoidable.

Bugs

Summer weather is bug weather. Sometimes that’s a good thing, like when you get to see fireflies at night. But most of the time it’s a bad thing.

Ticks, fleas, and mites thrive in the summer heat. Your dogs will be bringing in more fleas than ever, and fleas love to live in the carpet. The influx of warmth will bring unfortunate amounts of bugs into your home.

Ants are also more active in the summer. If you don’t have your food properly stored, prepare for an ant invasion. Expect more roaches, too.

And all of these bugs are not only gross and live in your carpet. They also leave debris in your carpet that you can’t see and that can contribute to the dust in your home!

Beach Trips

The long-awaited beach trip! And the thing everyone hates most about the beach: sand.

A sandy carpet is nearly impossible to avoid no matter how hard you try. Whether you rinse off after swimming or not, there’s still going to be sand on you. Have you ever completely rinsed off, only to hop in the car and realize you’re still fully covered in sand?

Somehow sand just has a way of sticking. And sticking to the carpet is no exception.

Final Thoughts

Summer is a lot of people’s favorite time of the year. But it’s a tough time for carpets!
